DofE Participants raise more money for The Buturi Project.
Last week the Duke of Edinburgh Award Manager, David Watkins, presented Judith Smith of the Buturi Project with a cheque for £780.05. Bronze DofE participants have been raising money for the project through their volunteering section by devising their own fundraising tasks. The Project was further supported by kind donations from Oratory School parents responding to the Christmas appeal. The latest donation brings the total amount raised for the project to £1558.75. This money is going towards a school building for the children in Buturi, Tanzania who are currently schooled under a tree. The next wave of DofE Bronze participants will be given the option to raise money for this charity soon.
In addition to presenting the cheque, David, had a long meeting with Judith to see what additional help can be provided. Now taking an active role in the charity, David, will be involved with the update of the website (www.buturi-project.co.uk) and be responsible for promoting the charity by social media, instantly setting up and running their facebook page (www.facebook.com/thebuturiproject). In order to boost fundraising for the school project, David will use his expedition experience to organise a charity climb of Kilimanjaro (Summer 2014). If you are over 18 and would like to find out more about this, please email an expression of interest to info@buturi-project.co.uk.
