St Philip House Sport
The philosophy of the house in terms of sport is based on three themes, opportunity, participation and excellence.
In terms of opportunity the house runs major and minor games options. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays all the boys participate in the major game of the term which is rugby in the first term, soccer in the second term and cricket in the summer. The boys are coached at all levels of ability and during the year all the boys in the house will represent the school in at least two of the major games.
Although we are selecting from fewer boys than many of the schools we play against, we enjoy a high level of success with both our soccer and cricket teams enjoying unbeaten seasons in recent years.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays we run our alternative sports afternoons. On Tuesdays the boys select a sport from rowing, badminton, shooting, or hockey for the term. The following term they are allowed to try another option. On Thursdays they choose from squash, real tennis, golf and swimming. Each term the options change with indoor cricket nets, tennis and athletics also being offered. Each boy who joins St. Philip is given the challenge to try a new sport!
