Future Hope India

Future Hope India is an orphanage based in Kolkata (Calcutta).  Set up in 1991 by Tim Grandage, it supports over 400 street children. The Charity offers the children an education, medical facilities and nourishment, but most importantly a loving, stable family life.

The Oratory School’s connection with Future Hope began in 2001 when we hosted the Rosslyn Park 7’s Rugby Tournament.  Tim, coming from a rugby background, had trained a squad ‘The Future Hope Harlequins’ and brought them over to England for the tournament.

Following this in 2002/3 Sukra and Kabir joined the school for their A Levels.  They worked very hard and left having done exceedingly well, both going on to University. In 2007 the School sent a rugby tour to play Future Hope. In 2008 we donated a cheque for £15,000 raised by our boys through activities such as car washing, head shaving, a day of sponsored silence, Pauline's Poppets, and a Christmas Fair. A gap student from Future Hope will soon be joining us.

The Oratory School carries out regular fund raising events and encourages students and staff to volunteer some of their time.  Some boys have spent their gap years and summer breaks working in Kolkata.
