Economics
Economics and Business Studies can be studied at A Level. Business Studies was introduced in 2004 and has quickly established itself alongside Economics as a very popular Sixth Form option, with over half the pupils studying one or other of the subjects.
The courses allow the pupils to understand the ways in which organisations and economies work. By investigating the fundamental areas, pupils learn to think about businesses and markets in a critical manner, examining both the favourable and unfavourable aspects in order to make their own decisions. They are encouraged to use all sources of information to widen their understanding of current issues, not merely standard textbooks.
Economics follows the OCR Exam Board and Business Studies the AQA Exam Board.
Sometimes Challenges are entered into which give the senior boys the experience of how economics work in the business world. CHALLENGE FOR SCHOOLS TARGET TWO POINT ZERO run by The Bank of England who invite schools and colleges to take part in the Bank of England/Times Interest Rate Challenge.
