Basketball
The Senior basketball team, the “Oratory Dragons” was formed in the Autumn of 2000, with coaching from the Reading Rockets basketball club. Several matches were played against other schools and clubs, despite the fact that several keen players had left the school, basketball continued and was extended to other year groups.
Friday evening coaching was introduced for St. Philip House as well as for Seniors. The under 16s have been playing on Thursday evenings and several very talented players have emerged, who, it is hoped, will go on to strengthen the senior team in the future.
All age groups have played matches against other schools and clubs, and on two occasions St. Philip House have been to watch Reading Rockets play Home matches at Rivermead Leisure Centre.
Basketball is a sport which everyone can participate in. Players do not have to be tall. In fact, some of our best players are very short! The main requirement is enthusiasm and commitment.
