The Oratory Schools Association was saddened to hear of the death of Mr Jack Eyston of Mapledurham House at the end of April. Jack was a governor for many years and chaired the governing body. He knew The Oratory in many other capacities, not least as a grandfather and as a friend to many Oratorians. He was always delighted to welcome people to the monthly Mass celebrated in the house chapel at Mapledurham where Mass was offered throughout penal times.
Mr Eyston’s funeral took place at Mapledurham but we were delighted to host a larger-scale Requiem Mass at The Oratory in half term celebrated by his old friend, Fr Edward Corbould Edward Corbould OSB of Ampleforth Abbey. Hundreds of friends were in the congregation and Father Edward was joined by several priests in the sanctuary. Members of the Consort came in during half term to provide the music for the service.
We pray for Jack’s soul, remember him with affection, thank him for his long years of service and friendship and extend our prayers and sympathy to Mr Eyston’s family.
