The Oratory’s Corpus Christi Mass and Procession

It was wonderful to be able to hold our annual Corpus Christi Mass and procession of the Blessed Sacrament yesterday afternoon, following last year’s cancellation due to lockdown. The ceremony was held a week early due to half term next week.

A whole school Mass took place in the Chapel with singing from Schola. The CCF then performed a Guard of Honour on the Head Master’s lawn ahead of a procession that was made to our outdoor altar for Benediction, accompanied by music from our Big Band. The House Captains had the honour of carrying the canopy as the school gave public expression to our belief in the Real Presence.

What is Corpus Christi?
The festival of Corpus Christi celebrates the Eucharist as the Body of Christ. The name 'Corpus Christi' is Latin for 'the Body of Christ'.

Corpus Christi is celebrated to proclaim the truth of the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the actual Body of Christ during Mass.

The procession carries the consecrated wafer as a public statement that the sacrifice of Christ was for the salvation of the whole world.
