160th Anniversary Day of Celebrations

A big thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate our 160th year on Saturday 22 June.

The Oratory community of Old Oratorians, parents, teaching staff, former staff and friends all came together for a day of celebrations at the Oratory School. The family-friendly day included a celebratory Mass; a Question Time-style debate with Sir Edward Leigh, Conservative MP (OS 1963-65); Robert Thomson, Chief Executive of News Corp; Commodore Mike Wainhouse, Assistant Chief of Staff (Warfare) in NCHQ; Professor Christopher Cordess (OS 1960-63), Sheffield University and chaired by Nicholas Purnell QC (OS 1959-62), Head of Cloth Fair Chambers.

We supported the First XI as they played against Eton and the rest of the school as they played in a house tug of war competition. Guests enjoyed a barbeque lunch, afternoon tea and the drinks on offer at the bar. The weather was superb and provided the perfect setting in which to enjoy ice cream rolls from Pan-n-Ice.

A Wine Tasting with Andrew Wilcocks (OS 1975-78) from the Wine Treasury was well received and the sporty members of the Oratory family participated in a Racquets Afternoon at the Sports Centre.

We were honoured to have Lord Judge welcome guests and Martin O’Brien (OS 1964-69) gave a talk and read from his recent book ‘Talking To The Sharks’. Energising Jazz from The Oratory School musicians on the terrace was a fitting way to round off the day’s celebrations.

Thanks to all the Old Oratorians and parents who supported the event.
