Speech Day and Prize Giving 2021

The morning of Friday 2 July heralded a slightly different approach to Speech Day and Prizegiving with the majority of parents joining remotely and the occasion held outside, and for the first time in the Walled Garden, so as to guarantee adequate provision in terms of distancing of year groups and those U6th parents who were able to attend.

Thankfully the weather held and only grew warmer as the morning progressed. The Head Master touched on some highlights of the year before saying a farewell to those staff departing the school at the end of this academic year.

Our guest speaker this year was Mrs Vicky Gosling OBE, well-known in a number of areas, and particularly in terms of GB Olympics, GB snowsport, and as CEO of the Invictus Games. Mrs Gosling presented the prizes to our prize-winners, albeit without handling them, before moving on to inspire the pupils with a speech focused on the importance of resilience and determination, particularly during times of challenge and adversity.

The affairs of the morning were concluded with a performance of Frank Sinatra’s My Way from 5th Form pupil Oliver Rae.
