The Oratory hosted the Greyhound Cross Country Run for Prep School

Another great Greyhound Cross Country event at The Oratory School with windy, sunny, and rainy conditions passing over us within the space of two races – proper Cross Country weather for purists.

Mr Whittle lead off the U10 race at 2pm. Gold medals were taken by the Ludgrove team. Abingdon Prep snatched Silver but only just as they were tied with Elstree.  After taking into consideration team scores Elstree were awarded the Bronze medals but it was very close.  This sequence of medals was repeated at the individual level.

Diggory Hobley, both a sprinter and long distance runner in the 5th Form, lead out the U11 race (there was a rumour U11 brother would catch and beat him but was injured prior to the event).  Ludgrove managed to claim their 2nd Team Gold of the day, with OPS finishing a close 2nd for Silver, and Summerfields just missing out but still with the Bronze medals.  Amazingly, Ludgrove took all three medals in the individual positons.

Compliments were paid about The Ortaory School organisation and facilities especially with the Medical Staff being called upon.  Thanks to the Conservation, CCF and 6th Form boys from The Oratory who helped to make the teams welcome and keep to timings.

Overall, this event is a joy to put on especially when one sees the faces of those competing on what is well known on the circuit as a challenging course.  The overall effort of so many Oratory staff and boys to make this a memorable event for these young pupils will bear fruit, for example, one very happy boy who claimed individual bronze at this event today had in fact got his first running medal, which he can now show to his younger sister who had previously brought home quite a few running medals to show him!
