On Friday 1 March The Oratory School was visited by Olympic champion Chris Mears. Chris won a gold medal in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics in the synchronised 3m springboard event. Chris was using The Oratory Sports Centre to complete some promotional work with his sponsor Bridgestone Tyres. After filming was finished Chris gave a presentation and held a Q&A session with current and future Oratory sport scholars. In addition to Oratory pupils, there were pupils from the Oratory Prep School, Moulsford and St Edward’s School. Chris spoke of his journey; having brushed with death early in his career with a ruptured spleen to winning Olympic Gold in 2016 and the challenges he faced to get to the top of his sport. It was a brilliant opportunity for the pupils to hear first-hand the ups and downs of the career of an elite athlete. The pupils were truly inspired by Chris’ story of perseverance in the face of adversity.
