Stainer’s much-loved oratorio, Crucifixion, was composed in 1887, with the text written by W J Sparrow Simpson, is intended as a meditation on the Passion of Jesus. Significant choral forces were assembled for our recent performance of this work, which was performed in Chapel. Our Schola Cantorum was joined by the Chamber Choir from Queen Anne’s School, Caversham. We were delighted to have David de Winter (tenor) and Colin Campbell (bass) with us, giving their fine account of the solo passages. A number of our boys performed ‘step out’ solo passages and our very own Nicholas Jones accompanied the performance on the organ.
