Oratory Students compete in Real Tennis World Junior Championships

Congratulations to A. Watson, E. Milton and J. Bradley, who recently represented the school at the Real Tennis World Junior Championships in Bordeaux.

The three students, who have each won the School Championship, qualified for the event earlier this year and spent the week competing with the best juniors in the world.

Archie, who earlier this year won the U19 and U17 French Open, finished in 7th place having given a particularly good account of himself against the number 2 in the Quarter Final. Ethan faced the difficult task of toppling the eventual finalist in the last 16 before finally finishing in 14th place. Joseph finished in 8th place but produced arguably the performance of the week where he had two match points against the number 1 seed and eventual winner, agonisingly losing the deciding set 6/5.

Claire Fahey, Head of Racquets and the Ladies World Champion, said: “I was very proud of the boys. To qualify for this event was a great achievement and to see them perform so well against juniors from other parts of the UK, Australia, France and the US was a good indicator of the strength of Real Tennis at The Oratory.”

The Real Tennis World Junior Championship marked the climax of a busy summer for the school’s players, who have already toured the USA and seen Fred Swanson play at Queen’s Club in the British Junior Championship.
