The Oratory marks Remembrance Day 2024

On Remembrance Sunday, an Act of Remembrance took place in the school Chapel.

It was then an honour to join the Woodcote village community for their Remembrance Sunday service parade with our Oratory CCF students in attendance. Wreaths were laid at the village war memorial by Dr Julian Murphy, Head, and our CCF Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Scott Bosher, and the Last Post was sounded by two students in St Philip House.

On Remembrance Day, the whole school gathered together for the Act of Remembrance and 2 minutes’ silence at the school’s war memorial garden. Wreaths were laid on behalf of The Oratory School Governors by Mr Frank Gargent, Chair of Governors; The Oratory School by the Head and on behalf of the Old Oratorians by Mr Charlie Watson, Remembrance crosses were laid in memory of Old Oratorians Capt Andrew Griffiths and Lt Peter McCarthy RM by Lieutenant Colonel Scott Bosher and RSM Daisy Baston-Hall.

On Thursday 7 November, a Mass of Requiem for Deceased Old Oratorians was held at The Little Oratory, Brompton, London and on Friday 8 November, a service of prayer took place for the three Old Oratorians whose remains are buried here at Woodcote: Reginald Donegan, Wilfred Patrick Thunder and John Michael Butchers.
