“Honorem servate pueri”
Norris House is named after Father John Norris, who was Head Master of the school for over thirty years. It is home to approximately 100 boys with a combination of boarding and day boys between the ages of 13 – 18.
The Oratory is a friendly community where academics, sportsmen, musicians, artists and actors sit and work side-by-side. I am proud to say that no house typifies this more than Norris, where the talents of the boys are varied and all boys are respected for who they are.
Last year, Norris boys played the lead roles in the school’s productions of MacBeth and Sherlock Holmes; they featured prominently in the Schola and in the musical evenings; they represented the 1sts in Rugby, Rowing, Football and Cricket; they won academic awards; they won colours; they climbed the Welsh 3000 peaks; they led the Naval section of the CCF and they led the school’s Young Enterprise.
Boys joining Norris will be encouraged to develop established talents and to discover new ones, be that acting, taking up a new musical instrument, participating in the debating or public speaking societies or trying out real tennis, shooting or rowing.
The House benefits from modern accommodation, with all 5th and 6th form boarders, and most 6th form day pupils, benefiting from single rooms, whilst junior boys are accommodated in shared rooms. The house has an ICT suite, a large, quiet study room and two common rooms. Table tennis, pool, and table-football can be played in house.
This year will be my first year in charge of Norris. I joined the school last year as Head of History and my wife, Rachel, son, Ignatius, and I are very much looking forward to immersing ourselves fully into the life of a boarding house. We have been impressed by the politeness, friendliness and cheerfulness exhibited at the school, and it is that atmosphere that you will find in Norris.
If you would like to view the House, please contact the main school reception by telephone or by email to book an appointment for a show-round.
