St. Philip House is the junior house of The Oratory senior school catering for boys in years 7 and 8 and referred to as The Lower School.
St Philip House is named after the Patron Saint and founder of the Oratory Movement, St Philip Neri. It was created to provide a dedicated focus to enable 1st and 2nd Form boys (Year 7&8) to absorb, benefit from and enjoy The Oratory way of life before joining the Senior School at the age of thirteen.
The welfare and wellbeing of the Pupil Members of St Philip House is very much a team effort which comprises The Housemaster and his wife, the Deputy Housemaster (who is also married and lives in an Annex to the main House), a team of academic and pastoral tutors and two Kiwi Gap Year Students. The School Chaplain also has a part to play.
St Philip House provides a daytime base for a variety of academic, sporting and social activities for all pupils as well as being the term time home of the boarders. The facilities include two large well equipped classrooms, a large area which can be used for formal House Assemblies or for informal indoor activities such as games or socialising, including watching television. Wi-Fi cover is available throughout the House. Boys have full access to all the senior school facilities including the Science laboratories and state of the art Design Technology and Art departments.
Each boarder has his either his own or shared bedroom. There are two dedicated sports pitches adjacent to the House which is also the closest to the new Swimming Pool. The facilities of the Senior School are also used as appropriate by members of St Philip House.
There are formal Open Mornings twice a year and more informal weekly show rounds where prospective parents and their sons have the opportunity to see the facilities on offer and absorb some of the community spirit and traditions of St Philip House. Please contact the School to arrange a visit. I would be delighted to show you around.
