30 November 2018

The side won the South West B section of the NatWest Vase with a 34-5 victory over The Crypt School in the regional final.

James Simmonds scored an impressive hat trick and Toby Winterbottom, playing up from the Senior Colts, scored a brace.

They will now go on to play Dauntsey’s School in the Quarter Final, with the winner going on to play a Semi-Final at Allianz Park and a potential final at Twickenham.

Head of Rugby Mikey Hennessy said: “all credit goes to the boys. They have worked really hard all season and it has been an enjoyable experience to be part of the cup competition for the first time”.

This is the first time The Oratory School have entered the NatWest competition; they have already recorded victories over Alton College, Reading Blue Coat School, Ryde School and John Hampden Grammar School.

Alongside the success in the NatWest, the 1st XV have been on an impressive 10 match winning streak which has seen them reach the no. 2 position in the Schools Rugby Performance Table, the most recent victory a notable away win at St Edward’s Oxford.

Outside school, Lower 6Th Form pupil Morgan MacRae, who is contracted to Scarlets and recently represented the Scarlets U18 Academy, has been invited to a Wales U18 training camp in December.
