Retirement of Tom Hennessy

23 November 2017

Tom Hennessy retires this Christmas after twenty-five years of service to the OS.

The Head Master, Joseph Smith, writes:

Tom joined the Mathematics Department at The Oratory in 1992 and was a hugely successful teacher and Head of Department and then greatly loved housemaster of St John – ably assisted by his wife, Patsy – before becoming Second Master, in which role he has been extremely effective.

As a former player for London Irish and Munster – and currently a Board member of the Irish Rugby Football Union – Tom has also played a huge part in the school’s considerable success on the rugby field over the years as Head of Rugby.

I am delighted to tell you that from January 2018 Tom will be taking on an ambassadorial role for the school as Director of Alumni Events, organising and hosting events for Old Oratorians, in particular those of a sporting nature, in which field he has so many contacts and so much experience. In this new role Tom will work closely with the Society and our own alumni team of Dora Nash, Rachael Craven (Director of Admissions and External Relations) and me. I’m sure that Tom will be in touch to introduce himself and his new role in the new year.

If you have any thoughts about any aspect of the school’s relationship with Old Oratorians please don’t hesitate to let us know.

There will be a Mass of Thanksgiving for his service to the school on Sunday December 3rd at 10.30am, with coffee afterwards. If you would like to attend, please contact reservations@oratory.co.uk
