The Award winning Department of Art & Design has twelve studios, two galleries, offices and an extensive library with computer intranet and ICT facilities. The Art Department specializes principally in Fine Art, promoting drawing and offering opportunities in painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, mixed-media, film and photography and art history. In the Design Studios, there are facilities for electronics, wood, metal and laser cutting design There are also PC and Apple computers for digital and video arts. Within the Department, there is a Director of Art and Design supported by two members of staff. The Department offers Foundation Level, Pre-U and A Level examinations.
The aim of the Department is to deliver a well-balanced and rich art education to its pupils, whatever their ability, through a structured programme of learning via the teaching of traditional and contemporary techniques, whilst nurturing confidence, individuality and creativity. Art is a journey of exploration and our aim is to undertake projects that stretch the appreciation and understanding of the aesthetic, technical and conceptual aspects of art.
