13+ SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

ACADEMIC AWARD

13+ Academic awards, including major scholarships, scholarships and exhibitions, are made annually on the results of the Common Scholarship examination held in the Trinity Term. Awards are of varying values, not exceeding half-fees. Candidates must offer papers in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, French, History, Geography, Science, Religious Studies (Latin is optional).

The Head Master has introduced a new Academic Scholarship: any pupil at the Oratory or joining in the Sixth Form who has achieved 7 A*s at GCSE will automatically qualify for a Scholarship award to the value of 10% of fees.

MUSIC AWARD

13+ Music Scholarships are held annually in January. Candidates attend the School for audition and interview. Heads of the schools are asked to write reports on their candidates’ academic and musical abilities and personal qualities, which are given careful consideration.

ART AWARD

13+ and Sixth Form Art Scholarships are held annually in January. Candidates are required to submit a portfolio of work and attend the School for practical tests and interview.

SPORTS AWARD

13+ Sport Scholarships are held annually in October and are made to sportsmen of outstanding ability. The Head Master is happy to discuss the suitability of a candidate for one of these awards on an individual basis.

DRAMA AWARD

13+ Drama Scholarships are held annually in Feb/March and expectations of Drama Scholars are that they participate in the school production appropriate for their age group, attend Drama themed socials and consider choosing Drama as an academic subject at GCSE.

11+ Award – st Philip house (Years 7 & 8)

11+ (entry to St Philip House) Academic Scholarship is made based a boy’s performance in the entrance tests which are held annually in November. Candidates sit subject papers in English, Mathematics, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning.

11+ Music Scholarship Auditions and Sports Trials are held in November

Thomas Scholarship

The Head Master has announced a new Scholarship aimed at Primary School boys who are considering Independent education from Year 7. The Thomas Scholarship, is named after Pat Thomas, who had been Housemaster of St Philip House (Years 7 & 8) for many years.

This Scholarship is an All Round Award for boys who are strong not only academically but also in one or more of the following areas of sport, music, art or drama. Boys will be required to sit our 11+ Entrance Exam held in November. The Head Master will also require reports and references from a boy’s current Primary School.

The Thomas Scholarship offers a discount on school fees, throughout the duration of a pupil’s time at The Oratory and can also be supported by a Means-tested Bursary.

Sixth Form Scholarships

ACADEMIC AWARD

Sixth Form Academic Scholarships are held annually in Michaelmas Term (November). We also offer an Academic Scholarship to boys who wish to enter the school at Sixth Form from local Secondary schools, The Henry Will Scholarship. Candidates will be required to complete a scholarship exam in a subject of their choice and a paper set by the school.

SPORT AWARD

Sixth Form Sports Scholarships are held annually in February.

MUSIC AWARD

Sixth Form Music Scholarships are held annually in January.

ART AWARD

Sixth Form Music Scholarships are held annually in January.
