Himalayan Expedition

11 May 2018

Old Oratorian Paul Bettesworth came on Wednesday 9th May to talk to the Sixth Form about his recent expedition to the Himalayas to climb Lobuche Peak in the Everest range.

Paul (1996-2001) won the OS Society Pereira Award for adventurous endeavor at the end of last year,  and  gave the Sixth Form a fascinating running commentary on the film his team took during the ascent and descent of this challenging climb. The physical and psychological strain came over very vividly and we congratulate Paul on an extraordinary trip. He showed the boys some of the climbing equipment which brought home the extreme conditions which prevail on Lobuche Peak.

Paul’s supporters, including the Oratory Schools Society through the Pereira Award, helped Paul to fund the expedition and give a donation to a school for disabled children in Kathmandu, which also featured in the film: they received a minibus, and some new bathrooms and IT equipment.

The Pereira Award application forms are on the Society part of the website. Current U6 are eligible to apply and should see the OS Society Officer, Mrs Dora Nash.
