FitzAlan is the most recently founded of the four senior Houses. It is named after Lord FitzAlan, an old boy of the school who became a distinguished public figure and was the first lay Chairman of the Governors. The House has a reputation for friendliness between the different year groups.
We have a good mix of different personalities among the boys, with scholars, overseas pupils, sportsmen, musicians, lively extroverts and quieter characters, all rubbing shoulders together.
In March 2005 the boys moved into the new boarding house accommodating both day and boarding pupils. The stylish bedrooms, centrally located Common Room and IT Suite has greatly improved the living experience for the boys.
Boys sitting Public exams last year secured some tremendous results particularly at GCSE and A2. There is a strong work ethic in the boarding environment with 50 boarders currently and the House prides itself on a “can do – will do” mentally, which sees many Fitzalanites featuring in school sporting teams; the choir and group ensembles; serving as a Sacristan with Father Gee on the altar and just about every aspect of School life. It is fair to say that the House expects a lot from its boys.
There is an outstanding pastoral team in Fitzalan and the boys respond well to the guidance they are given, enabling them to progress to university in confident style.
With four of my own children, FitzAlan is a very family orientated House and a very friendly and supportive environment to live and work in.
