Oratory Pupil Marathon Inspiration!

24 April 2018

Lukas, an U6th form pupil, inspired several of the school’s staff to join him and complete this year’s London Marathon.

Last Sunday in record breaking heat, the team took to the 26.2 mile course with Lukas who was one of the youngest competitors at the event this year. This challenge is not a conventional way to celebrate your 18th birthday which was two days before and made him just eligible to run. Phil Poynter and Sarah Kenyon, inspired by this bold ambition to run the Marathon decided that they as teachers at the school and coaches at the School’s Boat Club, where Lukas rows, would join him. The Oratory team also included local Reading Jogger; Kate Warren from the school’s office staff.

The team supported by their friends, colleagues and pupils have raised nearly £5000 for child related charities! Lukas found the last 3 miles the hardest and with absolute determination crossed the line in an impressive first time of 3hrs 56 mins. Lukas is now planning his next undertaking which may involve taking on 6 global marathons!
