This year’s charity event saw 160 people gather together in a marquee on the Head Master’s lawn for a shopping experience with boutique stallholders, followed by a light lunch served by our L6th Form waiters, and a talk by Angus Fraser MBE. Angus spoke of the highlights of his England cricket career and his involvement as trustee for The Ruth Strauss Foundation, which supports families facing the death of a parent to cancer and aims to fund more research into non-smoking lung cancers.

Alongside the marquee activities, The Oratory’s ‘Turn Cricket Red’ themed 1st XI Cricket pitch offered the opportunity to enjoy cricket in action. The highlight was the Oratory Cricket 1st XI v The Marylebone Cricket Club, where spectators were invited to join a boundary rope competition to help with the day’s fundraising.

Everyone who attended our event is likely to have been affected by cancer one way or another and the Ruth Strauss Foundation supports parents with an incurable cancer as well as preparing children for the loss of their parent. We would like to thank everyone who joined us on the day for their support, everyone who gave up their time to help make this day happen, and to Laithwaites for their very generous donation of wine.
Last year, The Oratory School was delighted to be named as the school with the biggest fundraising initiative for the Foundation and as a thank you from the Foundation, a group of our cricket players were very lucky to have had a training session with Angus and Stephen Finn this year, during the Easter break.”
