Youth Mental Health Day at The Oratory

Youth Mental Health Day takes place every year on 19 September. It was founded by stem4 in 2020; the UK’s leading digital mental health charity for young people, which has a comprehensive online library of free mental health resources.
"This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of mental health among young people. It encourages conversations about mental well-being, highlights the challenges that young people face and promotes the importance of support networks, early intervention, and open discussions.
This year’s theme, Share Support highlights how peer support can play a crucial role in offering a sense of connection, understanding, and shared experience that can reduce feelings of isolation and overwhelm.
When young people share their own experiences, recommendations and coping strategies, it encourages open discussion and provides others with relatable, practical tools to navigate their own challenges. Young people can share tips on how they overcame mental health challenges, what their biggest stressors are and self–care routines that work for them.
Peer support, where individuals with shared lived experiences can show support for each other creates an environment where people can feel safe, understood and accepted. Whether through one-on-one interactions or as a group, peer support provides opportunities for young people to speak openly about their struggles with others who truly understand."

The themes highlighted by Youth Mental Health Day have informed our PSHE offering via Wellio to pupils this week with discussions on topics such as 'Respectful communication in relationships' and 'Fake news and misinformation'. Wellio is a platform designed to simplify the teaching, delivering and tracking of PSHE & RSE.
