Oratory Racquets win two Real Tennis National Championships

It has been a highly successful week for Oratory Sport with the school winning two national Real Tennis competitions!

On Monday, St Philip House pupils Fernando and Noah won the U13 Real Tennis National Schools Doubles with an outstanding win over Moulsford in the final. The pair made great progress throughout the day but saved their best performance for the final as they clinched the match 6/3.

On Thursday, Archie continued to excel. Having previously won the French Real Tennis Open at U17 and U19 level, and making it through to the British Real Tennis Open U18 Final in the summer, Archie was victorious in the U18 National Schools Real Tennis Championship at Hardwick House!

Playing against the best juniors from around the country, Archie beat Lazlo Garson from Radley College 6/5 6/5 in the final.

Henry C. and Henry B. also made a semi-final in the U16 doubles, and Fred Bennett, Theo Ross, Ben Bradley and Louis Savage made the U15 semi-finals.

Head of Oratory Racquets and the reigning Ladies Real Tennis World Champion, Mrs Fahey, said: “This has been a very special week for Real Tennis at The Oratory. It has been wonderful to see the progress throughout the different age groups and to win two national competitions in a week is testament to all the pupils currently playing Real Tennis in the school.”

The Oratory is one of only 4 schools in the country to have a Real Tennis court. Real Tennis, often referred to as the original racquet sport, is played on asymmetrical indoor courts with uniquely sloped surfaces and complex angles. This academic year, The Oratory’s sporting provision will be further enhanced with the introduction of Padel Courts and an all-weather-pitch.
