Oratory CCF Summer Camp in Wales

Earlier this month, CCF cadets attended a Trewern Adventure Training Summer Camp with an exciting list of activities!
They commenced with climbing and learning the basics on the indoor wall at Trewern Centre – who knew that placing your foot on a toe-hold as quietly as possible ensures you place your foot well? Cadets then progressed to the lower walls in a disused limestone quarry, the limestone having been used in the steel production of the Welsh Valleys. They listened carefully to Dave, their instructor, and were soon climbing and belaying – supporting the climber on a safety rope. They advanced to the tricky top wall and all climbers made two ascents on what was a difficult route.
The following day, cadets were in a beautiful valley, hearing a Peregrine Falcon and Stonechats as they prepared for Gorge Walking. Wearing wetsuits, life vests and helmets, the cadets and a very game Lt Col Bosher travelled through pools, chokes and plunges along the valley!
The final day was spent canoeing along the River Wye. There were two people per boat, learning the techniques that are vital for safe passage over weirs and to avoid obstacles. Flying Officer Todd and Captain Stead were unwisely placed in the same canoe, and fell foul of the shoals and rapids on several hilarious occasions! The remainder saw cadets carrying out balance challenges and displaying balletic agility on the water.
Cpt Stead ran the mess house superbly, sating the appetite of the hungriest teens. They had a a fabulous camp - why not join Oratory CCF so you can experience the fun too!
