Oratory U15 Girls' Football team take part in the ISA National Football Festival

The Oratory's newly formed 6-a-side girls' football team attended the Independent Schools Association (ISA) U15 Girls' Football Tournament at LVS Ascot last week.

The girls came out of the blocks fast with a comfortable 1-0 victory in their opening match. The confidence of the team rose notably. Their second match was a 2-0 victory with the players showing good spatial awareness and some excellent passing skills. Coach Abid would have been proud watching them string six accurate passes together, ending with a rifling shot on goal, narrowly wide of the post. The third game was more evenly matched and a slight lapse in concentration led to a 1-0 defeat. However, they qualified in 2nd place in their group, heading into the knockout round of quarter-finals. They were up against the hosts, who were physically strong and organised. Their left mid struck two powerful shots but Hettie, our reluctant-at-first (3rd Form) goalkeeper was more than a match for them. Full time 0-0 saw two minutes of extra time and the girls fought hard, pressing for a goal that left space at the back, which LVS exploited, slotting in 2 goals in quick succession in the last 30 seconds.

It was a superb opening tournament for our new team with a few lessons learnt. Well done, girls!

Great goals from Tara, Laura and Flo W.

    Player of the tournament: Hettie.
