Claire Fahey, Head of Oratory Racquets and Girls' Games, makes Real Tennis History with Record 51st Major Title

Claire Fahey, Head of Oratory Racquets and Girls' Games, added another remarkable chapter to an already record-breaking career on Saturday 3 October when she became the first player in the history of Real Tennis, male or female, to win 51 career major open singles titles.

Competing in the Ladies’ French Open, Fahey defeated her sister, Sarah Vigrass, in the tournament’s showpiece final, securing a comprehensive 6–0, 6–0 victory.

The result saw Fahey surpass the previous record of 50 majors held jointly with her husband, Rob Fahey, further underlining the extraordinary achievements of one of the sport’s most successful players.

Fahey was in dominant form throughout the tournament and produced a commanding performance in the final, giving Vigrass little opportunity to establish a foothold in the match. The victory was particularly significant given the family connection, with the sisters meeting in a major final and then joining forces in the doubles' competition the following day.

Speaking after the final, Fahey said: “This has been on the horizon for a while, and I’m delighted to have now set a new benchmark in the sport. The standard of tennis was very high and it was great to have Sarah back playing in an open tournament. Hopefully we can pick up the doubles title tomorrow.”

The sisters duly delivered on that ambition, taking down the American pairing of Claire Veogle and Kadi Meldrum 6-1, 6-0, completing a memorable weekend for the family.

In March 2027, Fahey will begin her campaign to secure a ninth consecutive World Championship title in Melbourne, as she looks to extend her unprecedented reign at the pinnacle of women’s Real Tennis.
